I am a box.
A simple vessel
people pass by
without noticing.
But inside—
there is a life.
Secrets
rest quietly here.
Whispers of love
echo against the walls.
Desires
I rarely speak of.
Pain
carefully folded away.
Sometimes
the lid stays shut.
Locked tight.
Not out of fear—
but survival.
Other times
I open wide.
And the world
pours in.
Joy.
Loss.
Moments too heavy
to carry alone.
I hold them all.
There are days
I hide away.
Closed.
Silent.
Waiting.
But time
has a way of lifting lids.
And life
always finds its way back in.
Because I am
a keeper of things.
Dreams.
Memories.
Regrets.
Sorrow
sitting beside joy
like old companions.
Everything
carefully stored.
From the outside
I am only a box.
Plain.
Ordinary.
But inside—
there is you.
Moments we shared.
Laughter still echoing.
Love pressed gently
between the pages of time.
And I keep it all.
I will never forget
what once lived here.
By Paul Baldry
A Box of Love and Life is a reflection on everything we carry quietly inside us—the memories, dreams, regrets, laughter, pain and love that others may never see.
From the outside, we can appear ordinary and closed, yet within us are whole chapters of a life lived and people never forgotten. Some memories remain locked away; others return when time gently lifts the lid.
This poem is about being the keeper of those moments—and holding close the people who still live within our hearts.
