Kindred Spirits
In moments of solitude, lost in our thoughts,
A chance encounter, where a connection is sought.
Through the echoes of silence, a whisper comes to be,
Friendship is born in the words, “You too? Me.”
In a world so vast, unique souls intertwine,
Sharing laughter and tears as our stories align.
A serendipitous meeting, where hearts start to sway,
Friendship is born in the spark of the day.
United by common ground, a bond that’s robust,
Discovering kinship, a liberating trust.
Through shared tales of triumphs and battles we’ve fought,
Friendship is born in the solace we’ve sought.
For all our quirks and flaws, we find common ground,
Empathy’s symphony, a harmony profound.
The beauty of friendship is beyond any measure,
When we realise, we’re not alone in life’s great treasure.
Cherish those kindred spirits who whisper to your heart,
For they are the blessings, the stars on life’s chart.
In that moment of resonance, when two souls become one,
Friendship is born beneath life’s warming sun.
Paul Baldry
I wrote this poem after reflecting on the timeless quote by C.S. Lewis: “Friendship is born at that moment when one person says to another, ‘What! You too? I thought I was the only one.’” It celebrates every kind of friendship—those that last a lifetime, those forged through military service or the workplace, and those unexpected connections that begin with a single shared moment. Sometimes all it takes is discovering that someone else understands our journey for a lifelong friendship to begin.
