The Letters She Kept
The Love I Chose
She kept the letters I once wrote,
When youth was ours and dreams were free.
The words of love, the whispered hopes,
From someone I once used to be.
She placed those letters in my hands,
Their faded pages soft and worn.
And suddenly I was that boy,
Before the roads of life were drawn.
But wondering is not regretting,
And memories aren’t meant to stay.
They’re little windows to our past,
That time has gently tucked away.
And in her smile, I found a home,
A love that years could not deny.
But love is more than words once written,
It’s choosing someone all your life.
It’s choosing someone all your life.
We’ve walked through sunshine, faced the rain,
We’ve laughed and cried and sometimes fought.
We’ve shared the things that life has given,
And treasured more than gold could buy.
The years have left their gentle marks,
Our younger faces now have changed.
But love has never lost its way,
Though everything around rearranged.
And in her smile, I found a home,
A love that years could not deny.
But love is more than words once written,
It’s choosing someone all your life.
And if tomorrow offered me
The chance to live those years once more,
I’d take the road that led to her,
And knock upon that same old door.
So, thank you for the letters kept,
For showing me that distant world.
But mine’s the love that stayed beside me,
She’s not that young girl anymore.
And I’m no longer that young boy,
But after all the years we’ve shared,
She’s still my girl, my greatest joy.
She’s still my girl, my greatest joy.

The Letters She Kept, The Love I Chose a Reflection on Yesterday and Forever by Paul Baldry (LongJohn)
Some letters are kept for a lifetime, holding the memories of a love that once might have been. But sometimes, looking back reminds us just how fortunate we are to have found the love that stayed.
The Letters She Kept, The Love I Chose is inspired by my poetry about an unexpected reunion with an old sweetheart who had treasured my youthful love letters for many years.
Those faded pages brought back memories of a younger boy, forgotten dreams, and the roads life might have taken.
But this song is not about regret. It’s a celebration of the woman who became my wife, the years we’ve shared, the laughter, the tears, and a love that has grown stronger through life’s changing seasons.
Set to the warm, nostalgic rhythms of 1960s Motown soul, with heartfelt male vocals and rich backing harmonies, this song carries a simple message:
Yesterday holds our memories, but true love is the person we choose, again and again, throughout our lives.
And after all these years…
She’s still my girl, my greatest joy.
