Finding Peace Beyond the Battlefield. —

I close my eyes, surrender to the darkness
And let the whispers guide me
Through the veil of uncertainty
To the place I yearn for, my solace, my refuge. —

The journey home, a path both treacherous and familiar
Through the battleground of doubts and fears
Where faith and belief were put to the test
And the truth, like an elusive ghost, beckoned me. —

In the field of my shattered dreams
I lay vulnerable, fragile, stripped of illusions
My heart, raw and exposed, bleeds its crimson truth
And I embrace the pain, the bitter taste of reality. —

Among the poppies, I find solace
In their scarlet embrace, I let go of pretence
For here, in this sea of lost souls, I am content
With the warmth of my blood seeping into the earth. —

But soon, a gentle voice stirs within
Calling me away from the fields of chaos
A steadfast hand reaches out, lifting me,
My heart pounding with anticipation of reunion. —

I catch glimpses of joy, like fleeting stars
Moments that illuminate my weary mind
Familiar scents of home waft through the air
Burning wood and the perfume of love’s embrace. —

The laughter of a child echoes in my ears
And I am transported to a place of belonging
Where red roses bloom, vibrant and fragrant
And the weight of loss diminishes, if only for a while. —

Yet, amidst the familiarity, I find myself lost
Confused, uncertain of the path to take
My mind wanders back to the battleground
Where the ghosts of regret haunt my every step. —

Once, I worshipped a god of unwavering belief
But now, my faith flickers, diminished by doubt
Shame engulfs me, for I have lost hope
In the face of my own limitations and weaknesses. —

But still, the voice whispers softly, persistently
“Rest now, my weary traveler, for you are home”
And in those words, a glimmer of peace emerges
A reminder that home is not just a physical place. —

It resides in the warmth of human connection
In the shared laughter and tears of loved ones
In the fragile moments of vulnerability and acceptance
A sanctuary that transcends space and time. —

Now, I close my eyes, surrendering to the darkness
And let the whispers guide me
To that place called home
Where I am finally, truly, and eternally embraced.

Paul Baldry

My poem reflects an inner journey through loss, doubt and healing. I wrote it as a reminder that the hardest battles are often fought within ourselves, and that home is far more than a place—it is found in love, acceptance and the people who never stop believing in us. Even in our darkest moments, hope quietly waits to guide us back to where we truly belong.

Self‑Discovery and Identity — “What Was and What Will Be

The Future You Create

The future waits in quiet clay,
Shaped by the hands that work today.

No distant star can chart your way,
Like choices made along the day.

Each step becomes tomorrow’s view,
The future lives in what you do.
