A Reflection on Deeds Over Words

It is better to have less thunder in the mouth,
And more lightning in the hand,
For words can only do so much,
But actions truly command.

It’s easy to talk a big game,
To boast and brag and shout,
But it’s the ones who quietly work
That truly bring about.

So let your hands be the ones to speak,
And let your actions shine bright,
For it’s better to have less talk and show,
And more power in your might.

Let your lightning strike the world
With every move you make,
And let your actions speak volumes,
For that’s the difference you can make.

By Paul Baldry (LongJohn)

Born from an old Apache proverb, this poem reflects a belief I’ve carried for years— that words, no matter how bold— mean little without action behind them. It speaks to the quiet strength found in doing rather than saying, and the kind of character built through effort, not noise. Especially in this world currently full of talk and noisy rhetoric, this is a reminder that what we do is what truly defines us.

Quiet Freedom

“Stand firm in who you are, even when the room leans the other way—because true freedom isn’t loud; it lives quietly in the choices no one sees.”
